AI Revolutionizing Health, Education, Agriculture, and the Economy

In this modern age, the countries that are making progress are those that are taking advantage of current technologies. There's no doubt that artificial intelligence (AI) has dominated the entire world and will bring about further revolution globally in the future.

It wouldn't be wrong to say that AI is playing an important role in the field of modernization. The following article discusses a few things that have been introduced in this regard.

Self-Driving Cars

Intelligent chess sets have been around for two decades, and during this time, there has been amazing progress in machine intelligence. This was demonstrated when a car from a private company was equipped with an electronic brain developed by Google. This brain has hundreds of sensors that allow the car to travel on highways and busy roads without any human intervention.

This marks the beginning of autonomous, driverless cars that will guide the vehicle to its destination with a simple command. These autonomous cars are equipped with video cameras, laser range finders, and radar sensors to prevent collisions with other moving or stationary objects and to ensure the car accurately follows traffic signals on the road.

The system uses GPS for continuous guidance. The concept for this car was presented by Google engineers and Thrune, the head of the Stanford Artificial Intelligence Laboratory. The advent of AI-powered and autonomous driving cars could solve the problem of deaths from traffic accidents.

Astronauts, But They're Robots

What do astronauts do? With the help of powerful telescopes, they tirelessly scan the heavens night after night, year after year. This is an exhausting and patient-testing job that requires persistence. Now, to relieve humans from this laborious task, robots have arrived. In some laboratories, robots are now performing the tiring work of scanning the heavens. Some stars have varying brightness.

From this, scientists infer that the expansion of the universe isn't static but is continuously expanding. As galaxies race away from each other, the universe expands, propelled by a mysterious force called Dark Energy. These variable stars appear for a moment and then disappear instantly.

For this reason, they are called transients. At the Mount Palomar Observatory, artificial intelligence is being used to analyze these stars. AI is used to analyze images captured by powerful telescopes, clearing up sound signals within them to provide a clear picture.

Additionally, AI can also track supernovas, which appear and then vanish temporarily. For this purpose, a social network of computers has been created to work as a single unit. The specialized software in computers located in Chile, Hawaii, Australia, South Africa, Texas, and the Canary Islands will link them together, allowing them to communicate with each other.

Swarms of Tiny Robots

There's no doubt that future armies will consist of intelligent robots controlled from thousands of miles away. Continuous work is being done on how to control and use drones in the drone strikes happening in the northern parts of Pakistan.

However, tiny remote-controlled Quadrotor Robots have been developed that can fly through extremely complex paths. These robots will change the landscape of modern warfare.

The Automation, Sensing, and Perception (GRASP) Lab at the University of Pennsylvania recently demonstrated how these small robots fly in a swarm, working together to achieve a predetermined goal.

These robots are named Quadrotor Robots because they have four propellers installed, which provide stability to their flight. They can carry bags of incapacitating gases to be used to knock out soldiers.

Additionally, they can drop explosives at hundreds of locations simultaneously, creating widespread destruction and chaos among enemy ranks. The flying robotic machines can orbit an object and communicate with each other with extreme intelligence.

They can also demonstrate Automated Swarm Behavior. The small cameras installed in them are also useful for spying on the enemy and guarding their own installations. Artificial intelligence has become one of the most transformative technologies of the 21st century, affecting almost every aspect of human life.

From public health to transportation, from education to entertainment, AI is emerging with remarkable applications in various fields. On this basis, the National Task Force on Science and Technology and the Task Force on a Technology-Driven Knowledge Economy have developed several national projects in this rapidly emerging field, which are currently being implemented in Pakistan.

The Revolution of AI in Healthcare

AI has revolutionized medicine and health, expanding the scope of efficiency, accuracy, and treatment. Machine learning algorithms can analyze complex medical datasets, such as medical imaging, genetic sequencing, and a patient's medical history, to diagnose diseases with unmatched accuracy.

For example, systems like IBM Watson Health are helping oncologists diagnose and treat cancer by analyzing millions of medical papers and clinical trials. Robotic surgery systems, such as the da Vinci Surgical System, assist surgeons in performing minimally invasive surgeries, which reduces recovery time and improves outcomes.

Similarly, AI-powered wearable devices, like smartwatches, continuously monitor vital signs, enabling the timely identification of conditions like heart arrhythmias and diabetes.

AI's Transformative Role in Education

Artificial intelligence (AI) is making education more personalized, accessible, and efficient. Adaptive learning platforms use algorithms to deliver educational content tailored to a student's pace, ability, and learning style.

Language processing tools like Grammarly and Duolingo promote self-learning by giving instant feedback on writing and language acquisition. At the institutional level, EdTech companies have made remarkable financial progress through the use of AI.

AI's Role in Industry, Agriculture, and the Economy

At the heart of the Fourth Industrial Revolution is AI, where concepts like automation, predictive maintenance, and intelligent design are transforming industries. In factories, AI-equipped robots are performing repetitive tasks with greater speed and accuracy. Collaborative robots work alongside human employees to improve overall efficiency.

In agriculture, precision farming uses AI to analyze soil health, weather patterns, and crop conditions for better resource management. AI-powered drones identify pests and water requirements in fields. Agricultural robots are automating labor-intensive tasks like seeding, weeding, and harvesting.

The Alarming Side of AI

Could AI one day become a threat to our existence? The possibility of self-evolving machines with the ability to create versions of themselves that are even better is growing. You might have been surprised while playing an electronic chess game by how intelligent the machine is and how it devises strategies to defeat you.

The robots that currently exist can perform simple tasks, such as cleaning your house and following basic instructions. However, modern robots now have more complex systems integrated into them. These robots can predict that a person swimming is about to drown and assist lifeguards.

Additionally, while driving, they can inform the driver about traffic congestion ahead. Researchers are concerned that the day is not far when AI singularity will be created, and it will go beyond the control of chain reactions. After that, one machine will start producing a better machine itself.

Progress Toward a Knowledge Economy

Emerging technologies such as AI, modern genomics, energy storage systems, hydrogen isotope freezing, plant biotechnology, and bionics are taking the economies of countries that invest in high-quality education, science, and innovation to new heights. The root of Pakistan's economic problems is its failure to leverage these transformative technologies.

Although there has been some significant progress in higher education, we must produce and export high-value-added products like medicines, engineering goods, minerals, and IT products to escape the debt trap and a declining economy. For this, it's essential that we move from a natural resource-based economy to a technology-based knowledge economy. This change is not possible without visionary, honest, and tech-savvy leadership.
